Contresens, Annecy

Contresens is a great brasserie style restaurant in the centre of Annecy on the Rue de la Poste (close to the train station) – they describe themselves as a ‘Café Culinare’ a chillout gastronomic ABCD full of sens and contradiction!  which is very apt.  It is a great place with a cool interior, funky art and great colours.

As you walk in the feeling is light and airy and you look down onto a bar area.  On the left is a wall full of orange and grey napkins rolled into individual round metal holders with names on.  This quirky little feature wall of napkins are all the regular customers who have their own personal napkins in personalised rings!  What a great way to make a regular customer feel wanted and a new customer wishing to aspire to have his or her own napkin in an engraved ring on the wall.

The Menu

The menu works in a really fun way.  The various courses are labelled A – entrées, B – Les Plats, C – Les Légumes and D – Les desserts. You can choose as many or as few combinations as you like, each course is priced and then there is a table at the bottom of the menu giving you the prices for all possible combinations. C are vegetable dishes that can either be side dishes or work well for vegetarians.  The quality of food and value for money was excellent if you choose to have the combination A,B,C and D this worked out at €29 (March 2013)

The food was excellent and the service was good and friendly. The atmosphere was that of a busy, thriving bistro and this was on a mid-week lunchtime.
We did book and I would say that is advisable as Contresens was awarded BIB Gourmand in the 2013 Michelin Guide.   This café culinaire is part of the Clos de Sens group.  Contresens is open from Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner, Friday and Saturday evenings service is until 11pm.  There is a private dining room for 8 up to 20 people.
