Auberge de la Fruitière, Vers, Haute Savoie

This is a restaurant re-visited post, truly our local, being only a bike ride away! the Auberge de la Fruitière in Vers has new patrons: two brothers, Patrick and Gerard Josserand. The auberge is a communale building meaning it is owned by the village, it is an older building with character and was originally a fruitière (fromagerie) the last patrons; Anne-Sophie et Stéphane Joly were there for 10 years and made a great job of putting this gourmet dining establishment on the map in the Haute Savoie and neighbouring Genevois area and I have to say these two brothers have taken up the challenge and are building on this. The menus are a really great representation of classic french dishes some of which are in the Lyonnaise style.

Sunday Lunch
When I went for Sunday lunch recently there were three menus offered. Priced at €27, €36 and €48. All four-course menus with a choice of three starters, three main courses, 2 cheese dishes and a choice of desserts of the day. I felt they represented very good value for good quality tasty dishes that were all really well presented. The only part of the meal that I believe wasn’t prepared in their own kitchens were some of the desserts which had been made by one of our great local patisseries.

The menus change every 6 weeks I was told but on the day we went there were good choices of fish, meat, chicken or duck and salads and the classic escargots, foie gras, a classic Lyonnaise Quenelle de Brochet included on the menus. Patrick the chef has worked as a chef throughout France and abroad. He makes his own foie gras and terrines in house and sources meat locally where possible. The service was good and friendly and the restaurant was full! In the summer there is an outside terrace.
