One Night in Sarlat

Sarlat, what a gorgeous medieval town.  I had time to enjoy a quick stopover in Sarlat la Caneda on my latest road trip from the Haute Savoie to the beautiful South West region of France.  I’ve been wanting to visit for a while and these beautiful cobbled streets with their tall old stone buildings didn’t disappoint. I stayed at Le Glacier and my room which was huge was No.1 looking out over the square – Place de Liberté.

Restaurant L’Esquisse, Annecy

Is there no end to the fabulous places to eat in Annecy – it would seem not! My latest find is L’Esquisse Restaurant owned by Stéphane and Magali Dattrino.  Situated on the Rue Royale in the centre of Annecy, this little gem and it is a small restaurant takes only 18 covers for each sitting in the calm and tastefully decorated restaurant.

Les Palettes, Annecy

I know I say this everytime I visit Annecy but it really is true…this is a wonderful and interesting medieval town with so many great places to discover, shops to visit, galleries to see and historic sites to enjoy.  Not to mention the absolutely stunning freshwater lake surrounded by mountain scenery.  Apart from all of these reasons to visit, there is a plethora of fabulous restaurants and cafes to eat in!  So my latest find is Les Palettes and this is no ordinary restaurant/cafe, it is also a concept store and those who know me well will know that a melange of shopping and eating is my idea of heaven!

Les Cocottes, Christian Constant

Les Cocottes by Christian Constant is conveniently situated at The Casino on the border of Switzerland and France just outside Saint Julien-en-Genevois.  It is open 7 days a week and has easy parking.  So, they are the practical reasons … The real reason is that this restaurant serves great food at good prices in a really good modern, light and spacious space with a brasserie style.  From May to September the outdoor terrace which offers shade and faces the Jura is a very convivial place to dine.  Et voila so many reasons to give it a try!

L’Ancolie Restaurant, Cruseilles

The first time I visited L’Ancolie Restaurant was in 2013 as you can see from my post below.  Well now in November 2017 L’Ancolie has new owners.  Olivier and Katia Gérard who have been at Le Petit Monde in Viry this year are the new proprietors.  I have enjoyed several good meals at Le Petit monde and I look forward to enjoying many more at L’Ancolie.  They opened on Tuesday and 2 days later I went for lunch!  It was great to have the chance to chat to Olivier and Katia today, their enthusiasm for their new venture is evident.  They are looking forward to adding their own signature to L’Ancolie in the New Year.  They will close for the last 2 weeks of January for a refurbishment.

L’As des Neiges, Les Gets

L’As des Neiges is the newest restaurant on the ever-evolving restaurant scene in Les Gets.  They opened during October 2017 and as our local coiffure had told us the chef was Paul Bocuse trained I was keen to get in there and try it!   The restaurant is located in town on the Rue du Centre on the corner where the Bel Alps Hotel used to be.  They have 2 restaurants – L’As des Neiges is the restaurant Gourmand, next door and linked is Le Comptoir a more casual dining and takeaway restaurant with a bar serving artisan bieres.

A great day out on Lac Leman in Switzerland

I cannot believe that I have lived in the Geneva area for 9 years and had never taken this great day trip on the wonderfully picturesque lake – Lac Leman, one of the largest lakes in Western Europe. Lac Leman or Lake Geneva as it is also known is a crescent shaped lake with a shoreline in both France and Switzerland and is overlooked by the Alps.

Le Bilboquet Restaurant Annecy

So on this particular visit to Annecy, Taste of Savoie had lunch at Le Bilboquet Restaurant Annecy towards the back of the old town, so if you are planning to visit the food market on either a Tuesday or Friday you can just wander along for lunch afterwards. You definitely need to book at Le Bilboquet restaurant Annecy.

Le Denti, Annecy

What a great discovery in Annecy – this is a restaurant that you probably won’t find while strolling the streets of the old town and not a tartiflette or any Savoyard fayre in sight! So probably not a resto that the tourists will seek out and on the day I visited, it was very much local clientele.

Puntarelle Salad in Milan

What’s a Puntarelle you ask…this was a new for me too! It is a salad ingredient from the chicory family and seems to be unique to Italy. It is sometimes known as asparagus chicory and indeed when a local at a nearby table could see me trying to work it out with the waiter in a mixture of broken French, Italian and English, he stepped in and said this is similar to asparagus.
