At the centre of the city’s food scene is Les Halles, the permanent covered market, which provides a reliable daily selection of regional cheeses, cured meats and seasonal produce. Around this core, various open-air stalls and neighbourhood markets rotate throughout the week, bringing independent growers directly into the town squares. Les Halles de Chambéry: The city’s covered market sits on the Place de Genève and is open from 06:00 to 13:30. It is home to 27 permanent traders, including butchers, cheesemakers, bakers and greengrocers.
Place de Genève outdoor market: Directly outside the Halles, you will find an open-air food producers’ market running from 07:00 to 12:00.
Wednesday
Les Halles de Chambéry: Open 06:00 to 13:30.
Organic and local market: A dedicated organic producers’ market takes place at Place de Genève in the afternoon. The hours change slightly with the seasons: 16:00 to 20:00 in the summer (starting 1 April) and 15:00 to 19:00 during the winter (starting 29 October).
Thursday
Les Halles de Chambéry: Open 06:00 to 13:30.
Les Hauts-de-Chambéry (Les Combes): A morning neighbourhood market running from 07:00 to 12:00 on Rue du Pré de l’Âne.
Friday
Les Halles de Chambéry: Open 06:00 to 13:30.
Le Biollay market: Another local morning market located at Place François Marcet, operating from 07:00 to 12:30.
Saturday
Les Halles de Chambéry: Open 06:00 to 13:30.
Chambéry grand market: This is the main outdoor weekend market and the busiest day for food shopping. It spreads across Place de Genève, Rue de Maistre and Rue Favre from 06:00 to 13:30. It is packed with stalls selling fresh produce, regional meats and mountain cheeses. There is also a non-food market for manufactured goods nearby at the Place du Palais de Justice, which runs all day from 08:00 until 19:00.
Sunday
Les Hauts-de-Chambéry (Esplanade): Located on the Esplanade along Avenue d’Annecy, this Sunday morning market runs from 07:00 to 12:00. It offers a mix of local farm produce and general goods.
Monthly additions (Second Saturday of the month)
If you happen to be visiting on the second Saturday of the month, the city centre hosts two additional events alongside the usual weekend food market:
Brocante (flea market): Antique dealers and flea market stalls take over Place Saint-Léger and Place de l’Hôtel de Ville from 08:00 to 19:00.
Artisans market: Local creators and craftsmen showcase their work along Boulevard de la Colonne from 09:00 to 18:00.
